Here is definitive list of Sydney walking events 2023. It’s an event calendar of challenge walks in Sydney and surrounds, including Wollongong and the Central Coast.
Whilst all are challenging, some are true long distance charity walks, with a few 50km or 100km walks for charity.
We update this walking events calendar of charity walks throughout the year, so you may see 2024 event listings too as new dates are announced.
You'll find something to suit everybody, from virtual walking events to overnight challenges. Running events are included only if they offer entries especially for walkers.

Charity Walks Sydney Calendar
The Sun Run

- Distance: 7km and 10km.

- Supporting: Choose from over 1100 registered NSW charities.
Memory Walk and Jog – Western Sydney

- Location: Penrith.
- Distance: 2km or 8km.
- Cost: $45 per adult, $135 for families.
- Supporting: Dementia Australia.
Great Illawarra Walk
Saturday 11 March 2023.
- Location: Shellharbour to Austinmer.
- Distance: Any distance up to 40km.
- Cost: $40 per adult.
- Supporting: Illawarra Academy of Sport’s Athlete with a Disability (AWD) program.
Memory Walk and Jog – Illawarra
Saturday 12 March 2023.
- Location: Wollongong.
- Distance: 2km or 6km.
- Cost: $45 per adult, $135 for families.
- Supporting: Dementia Australia.
Coastrek
Friday 24 March 2023.
- Location: Palm Beach, Newport or North Narrabeen to Balgowlah Heights
- Distance: 30km, 45km and 60km events. Four person team (50% women).
- Cost: From $147 – $234 per person. Minimum $2000 fundraising commitment per team.
- Supporting: The Heart Foundation.
Walk For Kids With Cancer

- Location: The Rocks to Manly.
- Distance: Choose between 1km, 13km and 27km.
- Cost: $80 (or $40 for virtual event).
- Supporting: The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Supporting the children’s cancer centre.

- Location: Don Lucas Reserve, Cronulla.
- Distance: 3km (walk), 8km (walk/jog

Saturday 29 April 2023
- Location: The Bay Run, Leichhardt Park, Rozelle.
- Distance: Choose between 7km, 21km, 35km, 42km or 65km walk.
- Cost: $70 per adult. $160 for families.
- Supporting: Cystic Fibrosis NSW and The Children’s Hospital, Westmead.
Climb for a Cause
2023 date to be announced. Usually early May.
- Location: Sydney Harbour Bridge
- Distance: A hybrid climb route over the bridge. Experience duration approx. 3 hours.
- Cost: From $198 per person.
- Supporting: Black Dog Institute dedicated to researching mental health.
MS Walk, Run + Roll
Sunday 7 May 2023.
- Location: Pyrmont
- Distance: 4km or 8km.
- Cost: From $55 Adult. People living with multiple sclerosis receive free entry.
- Supporting: Funding services and support for people living with multiple sclerosis.

Oxfam Trailwalker
Friday 25 – Sunday 27 August 2023
- Location: Hawkesbury to the Harbour.
- Distance: 30km, or 50km in 24 hours, or 100km in 48 hours. Teams of 3-6 people.
- Cost: Usually from $125 per person (early bird), plus a minimum fundraising commitment of $1600 per team.
- Supporting: Oxfam Australia, challenging poverty.

Unity Walk in the Park

- Location: Sydney Park, St Peters. Another event in Stuart Park, Wollongong.
- Distance: 2km or 4km walk.

- Location: The Coast Track in Royal National Park

Sydney Running Festival
Sunday 17 September 2023
- Location: Bradfield Park to the Sydney Opera House.
- Distance: 3.5km, 10km, 21km and 42km.
- Cost: From $45 to $175 per adult depending on distance and time of purchase.
- Supporting: 86 charities.

- Location: Parramatta to Kings Cross
- Distance: 28km.
- Cost: $50 and a pledge to fundraise at least $450.
- Supporting: Wayside Chapel; support for people experiencing homelessness.
